Lateralus

Tomahawk opened the show at 7:30, and went into a few songs that I for one had never heard, but they sure sounded familiar. Like shove-it by Deftones and Beautiful People by Marilyn Manson. Although their lyrics were intelligable, and they used a bit more ambient sounds and noise than I like, their energy was incredible. The lead singer took some time between the songs to make fun of West Virginia, which I found to be bad attempts at humor, but laughed anyways. Probably 90% of the crowd, however, was offended. And proved his points by flipping him off. The one priceless moment was when he pointed to some girl and said she looked really angry, and that she probably hadn't been laid in months. Their last song was pure drumming and musical brilliance as Danny Carey came out to help on the drums. This lasted for what seemed forever, but was awesome none the less. They finished around 8:00 or 8:10 to fans chanting "TOOL...TOOL."

Then around 8:40, the lights grew dim as Eon Blue Apocalypse, played in and out....shadows of Danny, Justin, and Adam ventured out, heads bowed and faces hidden. Then a shadow in the back moved into place and all the lights except the two video screens on the left and right of the stage went out. Maynard was dressed in all black leather, and had a blue stripe painted down the middle of this face, Adam and Justin wore all black, and Danny wore shorts and a white cut-off t-shirt. Adam was set up on the left of the stage, Justin on the right, Danny right behind Justin, and Maynard beside danny. Maynard did most of the concert with his back facing the crowd, but turned around a few times. This is normal Maynard fashion however. As Eon Blue turned into Sober, the backdrop fell to reveal a trippy scene where the middle was an idol face, something like you'd see in incan temples, and the sides made up skulls looking toward it. Purple and Green lights lit it up so you could see one or the other more prevailently as trippy designs played over it. The visuals were amazing. The crowd was amazing. There was almost a bond between everyone around me in the pit. (I was no more than 10 feet from the stage at any given time). Looking around you saw the looks of awe, wonder, and understanding as we lifted our hands in unison to the beat. Everyone I saw sang every word of every song with such enthusiasm and emotion. With glances came knowing smiles and gestures as they listened, sang, and moved with the music. The scene was just as beautiful as the music. During each song videos played, the videos for Schism and Ænima were completely different however. The video for Sober was not completely different, but wasn't the same as what you saw on TV or came packaged with Salival. Parabola introduced two spinnging black bubble things like those in the video. At the end of the first set, Maynard stalked his way around the area he was in, and in a low menacing voice, anounced the next song with a "hey...hey...hey..." and the crowd went absolutely nuts as Ænima began.

The lights came back on, and (-)ions led into a frenzy of bass driven music as the band exited the stage. The intermission video was amazing, as a figures face morphed and stretched out and back in to the music, as the music got faster, so did the face, till the face moved so much it exposed the skull, and as the music got slower the skin erupted and showed the skull at all times. The music began to pick up and the skull moved up and down inside the base of the head that was left to the music.

The lights went off and TOOL went into disposition. This is one of my favorite tracks off of Lateralus. Banners dropped from the ceiling showing the human anatomy in different stages, from msucle to bones, etc, depicting a body being reduced to nothing more than energy. The backdrop had changed to show faces in a circle with layers of eyes spiraling toward the center, and Danny's symbol hanging in front of it. They then went seemlessly into Reflection, and Triad. Triad was a harder version that what is on Lateralus, and the crowd ate it up. It was incredible, and the drummer from tomahawk came out to help danny on drums. After the music fest of these three songs played seamlessly as one, Maynard thanked the crowd. They all gathered around Danny and his drum set, and went into the song Lateralus. The crowd absolutely lost it. As the song came to an end, the lights came back on and TOOL gathered for a group hug, then waved to the crowd and threw drum sticks and water bottles out into the crowd. On a side note, Danny broke more drumsticks than anyone I've ever seen.

There's nothing more I can say about this concert. It was nothing short of amazing. I can''t even put into words how much this show rocked, and I urge everyone who has a chance to see TOOL live to go.

Some of you may or may not have noticed a difference in me. Well, the truth is that I have changed...a lot. Lately, I've been questioning a lot of things, and decided to become a christian again. No, this is not a joke, I have converted from athiesm to christianity. And I must say the change has been for nothing but the better thus far. If this causes you to not like me anymore, so be it. But know this, I will not judge you, hopefully you won't judge me...If you'd like to ask about it go ahead, I'll be more than happy to talk about it, but yeah...just so you know...and those of my friends that used to joke with me about religion and the such, don't worry, I can still take a joke . I haven't changed so much that you won't recognize me anymore, I'm still good ol RS.
I'm now a part of two art groups. SurrealGFX and FIREproof. sGFX is based around various art types and abilities. While FIREproof is a christian based art group that is based on making light artwork, as opposed to the usual dark depressing work. Keep a lookout for both!
